By the age of five, Celine Dion began her singing career performing at her parents' piano bar. At age 12 she wrote her first song, "Ce N'etait Qu'un Rêve" ("It Was Only a Dream"), when manager (now husband) Rene Angelil heard Celine’s Angelic voice he was brought to tears. Rene Angelil mortgaged his home to finance Dion’s first two albums. In 1983 Celine Dion became the first Canadian to have a gold record in France.
Celine Dion was very busy recording six albums between 1992 and 1996; her album “Falling Into You” hit the music charts strong and ultimately, won Grammy awards for Album of the Year and Best Pop Album. In 1996 she went on to perform at the opening ceremonies of the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympic Games. The following year, Dion released the top hit "My Heart Will Go On," the theme song for Titanic. Dion’s appearance on VH1's Divas Live special with Aretha Franklin, Gloria Estefan, Mariah Carey, and Shania Twain, positioned her as a music legend.
Her husband, and manager Rene Angelil was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1999, Celine went into retirement in order to be by his side during his treatment and eventual recovery. “The Collector's Series…Volume One” was released during Dion's hiatus; it featured many of her most popular songs, to include a Spanish-language version of "All By Myself".
In 2002, Celine Dion released “A New Day Has Come”. The album immediately went to number one in more than 17 countries.
